A projectile of mass 4 kg is launched wit ha velocity of magnitude 3m/s at an angle of 60º at the peak of its flight, it explodes into two pieces of equal mass. The first continues to move in the same direction as the initial particle, and has a velocity of 2m/s parallel to the ground relative to the center of mass. The other half is fired backwards with the same speed relative to the center of mass and also parallel to the ground. HOw far from the initial launch point do the two pieces hit the ground?
there is no external force on the system, therefore center of mass remains at the same place.make an equation for the position of COM before and after explosion.also use conservation of momentum
So how do I go about making the C of M equation? Do I have to find the actual peak of the projectile motion?
