OpenStudy (dmezzullo):

An architect needs to determine the slope between two points on a ski lift. The two points have been identified as (25, 30) and (125, 50), where x is the horizontal distance and y is the vertical distance from the bottom of the lift. Assuming the lift runs in a straight line, what is the slope of the line between the two points? (Write your answer in simplest form, using / for a fraction bar if needed.)

OpenStudy (dmezzullo):

would it be 1/5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, I hope u know how u got it.

OpenStudy (dmezzullo):

Ya i do, want me to show u how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure!

OpenStudy (dmezzullo):

1 sec

OpenStudy (dmezzullo):

ok so i minused 25 from 125 and 30 from 50

OpenStudy (dmezzullo):

got 100/20 divided got 5/1 or 1/5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it sholud be 1/5

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Okay... but always divide the difference of the y's over the difference of the x's, ok? :)

OpenStudy (stamp):

solutions, see attachment

OpenStudy (dmezzullo):

Ik i put 1/5 down

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

\[\huge m=\frac{\Delta y}{\Delta x}\]Where the triangle (delta) means "change in"

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

And m is the slope
