PLEASE HELP! What is the value of x to the nearest degree? (image below)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

here two sides are given..and with reference angle x can you guess some trigonometric relation??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x = 19 degrees?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats not the answer..I have given you the definition of sinx previously..do you know such formulas for tanx,cosx..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no....im really terrible at this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

with reference to what i have told you previously..cosx=base/hypotenuse.. tanx=perpendicular/base..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which sides are given in this fig..p,b or h??can you say..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

p and b?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so which formula do you have to use cosx or tanx??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tanx?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes,so what will be the value of tanx??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the tanx formula?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have given you above:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its p/b..can you identify p and b in above fig..Try again to find tanx..i have already explained about p,b,h

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x/11?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

here p=11 b=33 so tanx=11/33=1/3 \[x=\tan^{-1} (1/3)\] if you calculate \[\tan^{-1} (1/3)\] in calculator you'll get around 18.43 which is the ans
