[10.02] The sum of the lengths of the diagonals of a rhombus is 20, AE is x + 4, BE is 2x - 3. What is the length of BD? 3 4 6 8

2(2x-3)+2(x+4)=20 (AB and AE are half the longer and the shorter diagonals respectively. By multiplying each by 2, we shall get the length of each of the diagonals of the rhombus whose sum is 20) 4x-6+2x+8=20 (by opening up the brackets) 6x+2=20 (by collecting the like terms) 6x=18 (subtracting 2 from both sides) x=3 (dividing both sides by 2)

A slight correcion to the above solution....>You get 3 by dividing both sides by 6.
