Residents of Phoenix, Arizona are billed a fixed yearly rate of $175 for water. They are also charged $0.03 for every 5 gallons of water they use. 1. Write an equation representing the total cost based on how many gallons used. 2. If an individual uses 307 gallons per month what is their yearly rate?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that was wrong, it is 3 cents for ever FIVE gallons sorry so if you call the number of gallons \(x\) then you pay \(.03\div 5 = .006\) per gallon

OpenStudy (anonymous):

with a flat rate of $175 the cost is \[C=175+.006x\]
