OpenStudy (anonymous):

The allele for a widow’s peak has complete dominance over the allele for a straight hairline (w). What is the probability of two parents heterozygous for a widow’s peak (Ww) having an offspring with a widow’s peak? 75 percent 50 percent 0 percent 25 percent Is the correct answer 50 percent?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

did you do a punnett square?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I keep trying to but keep getting messed up on it.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

|dw:1364262039416:dw| fills those in

OpenStudy (aaronq):

which genotypes do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can get it filled in but then get confused because of the wording of the questions. I come up with 50% WW, 25% Ww, and 25% ww

OpenStudy (aaronq):

you're incorrect in part, you'd get: 1 WW 2 Ww 1 ww now, widow's peak is DOMINANT, meaning as long as it has 1 (capital) W, it will show. how many have at least 1 W ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3 with a W

OpenStudy (aaronq):

so, what is the probability?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Or I guess you would say 75%

OpenStudy (aaronq):

yep, thats it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok thank you so much for explaining it, now I understand it.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

that's good, no problem !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you , you were kind to explain it. :)

OpenStudy (aaronq):
