Solve the inequality and give the solution in interval notation. 4x + 10 < 42

Answer choices: (8, ∞) (-∞, 8) (-∞, 8] [8, ∞)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[4x+10=42\] Subtract 10 from both sides. \[4x=32\] Divide both sides by 4. \[x=8\] Now, because you have not divided by a negative number, the sign from the original inequality will be the same as the simplified inequality. \[4x+10<42\] \[x <8\] Since any number less than eight (including negatives) can be x, then the answer would be \[(-\infty, 8)\] because all of the numbers between -infty and 8 can be put in for x.
