Many organisms can reproduce asexually through mitosis, while other organisms reproduce sexually, and their cells carry out meiosis to form gametes. In a situation where an organism falls prey to many efficient predators, which of these processes would be most beneficial to a species?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A-sexual reproduction would be most beneficial. When a species reproduces sexually, there is only male and female. If a predator kills off all of the species BUT ONE, that last organism will not be able to reproduce, and therefore go extinct. In opposition, a-sexually reproducing organisms can create more offspring without the aid of another organism.

thomaster (thomaster):

The organisms that can reproduce asexually of course. For sexual reproduction you need 2 genders of a species and for asexual reproduction only 1. So these organisms are much more independent.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Asexual reproduction; it can be done with just 1 parent.
