do cytokines help kill off pathogens

cytokines are protein molecules secreted by lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell). When an antigen(foreign body/pathogen) enters the body and comes in contact with a lymphocyte, the lymphocyte is activated and begins to secrete this protein, which then attaches to receptors on other lymphocytes, activating them... These activated cells become Killer lymphocytes which attack the pathogen and kill it so u can say cytokines are necessary in cell-to-cell communication and activation of killer cells.
