math question help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

shoot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the line up or down for graphing y = –2x² + 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1) this is a quadratic and cannot be a "line". It is a "curve"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats what i mean sorry is the curve up or down

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2) we then check the coefficient of the highest power of "x"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i put it as down but im not sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it will first increase from -infinity, then reach a maximum and then decrease

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay i get that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so does it look like this then

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1364413141919:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i couldn't draw it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

looks like this. I cannot see your picture.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh sorry it was a pic that looked like the one you drew except the curve was under the x axis is that correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep. So, it first increases and then decreases. did you study derivatives?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes and thank you :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

curve is under the x axis and downward.. at x = 0 it peak

OpenStudy (anonymous):

at y =0 you can find x value and at x= 0 find value of y...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you had studied derivatives, this becomes way easier

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just a little bit and thank you again all for helping
