Choose the function whose graph is given by (graph attached inside!) A. y = -cos x + 2 B. y = -sin x + 2 C. y = cos x - 2 D. y = sin x + 2 ***my answer: D is that right?? I'm not too sure... :/
graph!
All choices have either a +2 or a -2 at the end
we can eliminate the -2 choices at the end because we're shifting the graph up 2 units
that's what i thought! :) so C is out!
The basic graph of cosine starts up at (0,1) and heads downward Also, one peak of y = cos(x) is at x = 0, which is the point (0,1). If you reflect it over, it will become a valley (ie the smallest point) So y = -cos(x) has a min at (0,-1). Add 2 to the y coordinate to get (0,1) This doesn't fit since there are no extrema at x = 0 on this given graph, so that's why choice A is out
Choice B is out because -sin(x)+2 would have the graph start at x = 0 and go downward as x increased
so you're correct, it's D
yayyyy!! :) thanks!! :D woohoo!
