So the American Dream in this context was basically the idea that you could move to California, get rich quick, and be happy forever. Of course, it didn't exactly work out that way ... For the journey thing, just make up some family members/friends you left behind and talk about the rugged cross-country journey. For the last few elements, you'll have to do some research: what was daily life like for a California miner? what did things cost? The main thing with this assignment is to reflect the downside of life mining in California, what life as a miner was like, and the dream that drove so many people to rush for gold.
