HELP!! who wants a medal ? write always, sometimes, or never. If it is always true, give the property or two examples. If it is never true, give the property or two examples. If it is sometimes true, give one example for which it is true and one example for which it is false. x • x = 2x and x^2=-9

Starting with the second one: is a number squared ever negative?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

umm i dont think so

To make sure: \[x ^{2}=x \times x\] Right? Well, if x is positive, we have a positive times a positive, which is a positive. If x is negative, we have a negative times a negative, which is a positive. So x^2 must be positive, and is never -9 (unless you use imaginary numbers which you may not have gotten to yet). For the second one: Does it work for x = 0, x = 1, x = 2, x = 3? Just try some numbers to see
