Some computers have CD drives and some have DVD drives. If a store carrys 4 NEW CD drive computers, and 3 NEW DVD drive computers. The same store also carrys 2 USED CD drive computers and 1 USED DVD Drive computer. What is the probability that the computer is new AND has a CD Drive?

OpenStudy (phi):

count the total number of computers. How many do you have ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

10 computers

OpenStudy (phi):

how many are new and have a cd drive ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4

OpenStudy (phi):

the probability is part / whole where part is the # that meet the criteria and whole is the total number.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so what do i do next

OpenStudy (phi):

you make a fraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

with what?

OpenStudy (phi):

the bottom of the fraction is the total of whatever we are counting (computers in this case) the top of the fraction is the number of computers that "pass the test" (are new and have a cd)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4/10= 2/5

OpenStudy (phi):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):
