Describe the functions of the right atrium & right ventricle. Describe the function of the tricuspid valve.

OpenStudy (koikkara):

well..... Tri.. Valves are flap-like structures that allow blood to flow in one direction. The tricuspid valve is located between the right atrium and the right ventricle. Function: Prevents the back flow of blood as it is pumped from the right atrium to the right ventricle.

lol..

atrium....related plz refr... http://biology.about.com/od/anatomy/ss/ventricles.htm

Okay @lyssaayb i can help. The function of the right atrium is to recieve deoxygenated blood from the lower part of the human body via the vena cava or more appropriately the posterior and anterior vena cava. Now this blood is pumped to the next close lying ventricles. Now the function of the right ventricle is to recieve the deoxygenated blood from the right auricle and pump it to the lungs for oxygenation via the pulmonary artery. The function of the trcuspid valve btween the right auricle and ventricle is to close at the time of ventrcular systole(contraction phase of the heart) to prevent backfliw of blood into the auricles. Also at the time of atrial systole(phase where theatria contract) this valve opens to allow passage of blood into the ventricles.
