How did Prohibition help American during the Great Depression?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so Prohibition began in the year of 1920. The Great Depression started around 1930. Prohibition was not repealed til December 5th of 1933, 13 years later. The Great Depression lasted til the late 1930's or mid 1940's. I personally do not see how Prohibition helped American during the Great Depression that much..It increased crime drastically and the deaths surrounding it were high, some people even tried to drink anti freeze because of it's alcohol content ( Methanol or otherwise known as methyl alcohol or wood alcohol it's also found in windshield washer fluid ) because they believed it was safe if filtered through a piece of bread..But of course it wasn't haha >_< It may have decreased the amount of people getting drunk and failing to do work?..But it helped the Great Depression more after it was repealed. Because the government could start taxing the sells of alcohol and gain more profits to help the nation out of it's Depression.
