The answer to your first question would be B. The nations joined in a large alliance because they believed it would PREVENT war, but unfortunately it did just the opposite. What could have remained a small, localized conflict became a huge World War because other countries were compelled to join in due to their alliances. Does that make sense? @bnkilinc
