How is -4m^5 + 6/m - 1 NOT a Polynomial?

OpenStudy (perl):

nice picture it is not a polynomial because you cannot have like x in the denominator FOr example 1 /x is not a polynomial

OpenStudy (perl):

but first you must simplify , x^2/x +1 is a polynomial becuase x^2/x +1 = x +1

OpenStudy (perl):

there is a also a formal definition of a polynomial. another example of a *non* polynomial, you cannot take square root of x either so sqrt(x) + 3x is not a polynomial

OpenStudy (perl):

the formal definition of polynomial is |dw:1364548908369:dw|
