[lec 4] counting operations for A, which is a n*n matrix. why there are n^2+(n-1)^2+...+2^2+1^2. why not n+(n-1)+..+2+1 i'm considering every entry can do multiply and subtract once to get 0 in front.

because each time you do 'multiply and subtract', not a single component but an entire row gets updated.
