Explain the mood of this passage :) "Consider the fearful danger you are in; it is a great furnace of wrath, a wide and bottomless pit, full of the fire of wrath, that you are held over in the hand of that God, whose wrath is provoked and incensed as much against you, as against many of the damned in Hell. You hang by a slender thread, with the flames of divine wrath flashing about it, and ready every moment to singe it, and burn it asunder; and you have no interest in any mediator, and nothing to lay hold of to save yourself, nothing to keep off the flames of wrath, nothing of your own, no
Mood is all about atmosphere and emotion. How does reading this paragraph make you feel? How do you think it is supposed to make you feel?
i dont know, im not good at figuring out the mood, everything is the same to me
All right. A good way to figure this out is to look for key words in the reading. Key words are often adjectives: words that describe things in the paragraph. Can you list some of the key words from the paragraph?
(You're almost there! Once you find some adjectives, it'll be pretty obvious what the mood of the passage is. You can even use some of the adjectives to describe the mood!) @Katlin15
(PS: In addition to adjectives, also look for words like "wrath" or "singe" because those tell you a lot about what the paragraph is about)
is it like angry or something because it says fearful, danger, and flames of wrath
Yeah! Great job. It's also sort of threatening, because it's trying to make someone afraid.
ok thanks
No problem. Good job finding the key words and figuring out the mood from them!
