What is the next number in the pattern below? 3, 5, 9, 15, 23, ___

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

1) There are infinitely many answers. 2) The question should read, "What number could be the next in this sequence? Justify your answer." 3) Succesive differences often create something comprehensible. 5-3 = 2 9-5 = 4 and etc.

3,5,9,15,23 Find the difference in the numbers... 3 to 5 is 2 5 to 9 is 4 9 to 15 = 6 15 to 23 = 8 As you can see, the pattern is 2,4,6,8...etc. Now that you know the pattern, can you find the next number ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So basically, you have to add 10 to 23. So just do 10+23

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Again, that is one possible solution. There are infinitely many others!
