Prince’s Sentence Have you heard that Prince banished Romeo after he killed Tybalt? It was an act that happened all of sudden, so Tybalt killed Mercutio and Romeo got angry and fought Tybalt until he died. So basically, I think it is unfair for Prince not to follow his first warning in "Who ever fights again will be punished to death"(Shakespeare I.I.80-100). So after the fight between Tybalt, Romeo, and Mercutio, Prince’s words were “And for that offence Immediately we do exile him hence. I have an interest in your hearts' proceeding. My blood for your rude brawls doth lie a-bleeding. But I’ll amerce you with so strong a fine. That you shall all repent the loss of mine. I will be deaf to pleading and excuses. Nor tears nor prayers shall purchase out abuses, Therefore use none. Let Romeo hence in haste, Else, when he’s found, that hour is his last. Bear hence this body and attend our will. Mercy but murders, pardoning those that kill." (Shakespeare III. I. 183-194). So Romeo should have been executed instead of being banished because Romeo didn’t follow the prince’s first order, also prince changes his mind when he sees what has happened and who has died, and also the final reason that Romeo should be executed instead of being banished is because it would be unfair for the Capulet’s family because they lost a family member in the fight, but Romeo is still alive even though the deal was "If any two members fight, then both members will be executed." So I think Romeo should take the punishment to death for not following Prince's First order. Romeo didn't follow the Prince's first order, which was if you fight you are to be killed. So when Prince comes to see what the problem was, Prince called up Benvolio as in the beginning. Though Benvolio explains that Romeo didn't start the fight, Romeo did fight and ended up killing someone. So Prince should have got involved and should have executed Romeo for his actions. Also both families try to decide who gets the execution and Prince tries to figure out whose family would get the execution. So it was a hard decision, for Prince to choose the wrong decision. So then when Prince is trying to figure out whose life is to pay, he has to really concentrate of whose family it has to suffer for. So then for justice to be served, those who fight should be executed. Mercutio dies by Tybalt's hand, Tybalt dies by fighting with Romeo, and so Romeo should be executed because he was a part of it but has not been punished. And when Benvolio tries to figure out who is to punish he is having a difficult time. With Prince trying to figure out what all happened, He figured that Mercutio was trying to protect Romeo and then Romeo killed Tybalt do it was a horrible decision. For the family is to be chosen it would at least change me any way. A lot of each side of the Capulet’s and Montague’s were a part of it trying to protect their own families. Prince had to decide who was punished. It was a hard and difficult decision to try to decide which family to try to give the punishment choices. But Prince really didn’t keep his promise. The Prince changes his mind when he sees what has happened and who has died His decision was merciful, but not fair. Romeo has killed someone and the punishment should be his own death. He didn’t follow his own rule. Romeo killed someone so he should immediately be punished to death. Since the Prince is a relative of Mercutio, he kind of rethinks it over because he is a friend of Romeo and a relative of the Prince. This causes the Prince to lower the sentence. (Find the quote when the Prince talks about Mercutio) Benvolio told Prince that Mercutio were friends so Prince had a hard time choosing. He tries to find who is responsible for Mercutio’s life to death. (___, Shakespeare) 3rd Paragraph The final reason that Romeo should be executed instead of being banished is because it would be unfair for the Capulet’s family because they lost a family member in the fight, but Romeo is still alive even though the deal was "If any two members fight, then both members will be executed." Both families lost a family member. Capulet’s were very sad about losing Tybalt. Montague told Prince that Romeo shouldn’t lose his life because he was friends with Mercutio and Romeo being banished did justice’s job by taking Tybalt’s life. Prince decided to just banish him since Romeo and Mercutio were close. Since Mercutio was royalty Prince had to think that it would hurt Mercutio if he executed him. Prince decided to just give him not as a harsh punishment. Conclusion V. Romeo should have been executed instead of being banished because Romeo didn’t follow the prince’s first order, also prince changes his mind when he sees what has happened and who has died, and also the final reason that Romeo should be executed instead of being banished is because it would be unfair for the Capulet’s family because they lost a family member in the fight, but Romeo is still alive even though the deal was "If any two members fight, then both members will be executed." So I do think it was very unfair not to follow his first warning and for what happened to Tybalt and Mercutio.
