A solution set is the set of numbers that makes the statement true. the easiest way to figure this out is to start trying numbers! For example, replace the a's with the number 1...if it results in the answer of 10, it is in the set. If it is not, then it's not.

You can also just solve for a and see what you get. But check out those little lines on either side of the 4a + 6 part of the equation. That changes negative numbers positives.

isolate the absolute value. then, it will either be positive or negative. first, do positive: 4a-6=4a-10 subtract 4a from both sides -6=-10 since this is not true, there is not solution
