Broderick had $420 in his checking account. He made 6 deposits of $35.50 each. He needs to write 4 checks for $310.75 each. Write an integer to represent the total deposits Broderick made and another integer to represent the total amount Broderick needs from his checking account to cover the checks. Show your work. How much money does Boderick need to add to his account to cover his checks ? Show your work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

420 + 35.50 X 6 / 310.75 X 4 = 8.148028962 not sure if this is what you want but.... i tried.....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

420... And then add six times 35.50....

OpenStudy (selena2345):

what

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We're counting how much money is coming into the account, and how much is coming out :) First, how much is in it... Start at 420, and he puts in 35.50... six times So, what's 6x35.50 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what

OpenStudy (selena2345):

6 x 35.50 = 213

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, that's it :) So, that makes 420 + 713 in his account ^.^ But that's not the answer yet ;)

OpenStudy (selena2345):

i add 420 + 713 right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry, 420 + 213

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not 713

OpenStudy (selena2345):

420+213=633

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, so leave that for now :) Now, let's count how much he's taking away from the account... namely, the checks he writes...

OpenStudy (selena2345):

what

OpenStudy (anonymous):

He writes checks, doesn't he? Four of them, in fact, but for how much?

OpenStudy (selena2345):

4 checks for $310.75 each

OpenStudy (selena2345):

@PeterPan

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, so how much is all of that? :)

OpenStudy (selena2345):

4 x 310.75=1243

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha yeah :) He's really not that bright, is he? :D He only has 633 in his account, but writes checks for 1243 total... no wonder the world's going cuckoo ^.^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Speaking of which, how much does he need, so that those checks are actually worth something? He already has 633, but he needs 1243... how much more does he need?

OpenStudy (selena2345):

1243-633 right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's precisely correct :) Great job, Selena ^.^

OpenStudy (selena2345):

1243-633=610

OpenStudy (anonymous):
