why isn't (x^2 + 1) and (x+1)^2 the same?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(x^{2}+1) \] and \[(x+1)^{2}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeap!

hero (hero):

Because one is simply x squared plus one. The other is `x plus one` times `x plus one`.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh shoot, thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(x+1)^2\] \[(x+1)(x+1)\] \[x^{2}+2x+1\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):
