solve x2-12x=-36

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that x2? or 2x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If it is x^2 answer is 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

set eqn equal to zero, x^2 - 12x + 36 = 0; factor, (x-6)^2=0 solve for x, x=6

the above answer is almost right; You have to 1st set the equation to 0 by adding 36 to both sides then it would look like this: X^2-12X+36=0 then you factor 36 (1,2,3,4,6,9,12,18,36) and look at the +36 it is positive, so then you look at the -12 it is negative so you go beneath the problem and put 2 sets of parentheses like this: (x- ) (x- ) and you determine which 2 of those factors added together will equal -12 (the above answer said 6 which is partially correct, it is actually -6) so you put those in the parentheses like this (x-6) (x-6) so the solution is this...
