OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need to graph something

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[y=-x^2-4x-5\]

OpenStudy (phi):

pick a number for x (for example, 0) replace x with 0 in the equation figure out what y is can you do that ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am trying to give you the x and y

OpenStudy (phi):

yes, but to graph this we need pairs of numbers (x,y) when we figure out a few pairs, you plot them, then "connect the dots" so the first step is pick a simple number of x. Let's use x=0 if x is 0 what is y ? can you figure it out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the x intercept is what it is asking

OpenStudy (anonymous):

help

OpenStudy (phi):

ok, there are ways to analyze this equation that help to plot it... but if you know nothing you can always find (x,y) pairs... And you should be able to do this before doing the more complicated thing. find the x-intercepts means find the x values when y is 0. This is harder than finding the y value when x is zero. For the x-intercepts, you have to "solve" for x \[ -x^2-4x-5 =0 \] As a first step, I would multiply both sides by -1. That means multiply every term by -1 what do you get

I would also suggest wolfram alpha
