Jimmy's living rom is a rectangle 14 feet by 16 feet, except for the house of the base of the stairs in the corner, which is 7 feet by 4 feet. The stairs would go up to his bedroom. This room is also a rectangle,12 feet by 15 feet, except for the stairwell, which is also 7 feet by 4 feet.Jimmy is buying carpeting for these two rooms. What is the total area of the carpeting has to cover in feet? A. 348 feet B. 376 feet C. 404 feet D. 432 feet

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The area of the living room is 14x16 - 7x4. Similarly we can work out the area of the bedroom. Then the amount of carpeting required is the sum of these areas.

thats 136

OpenStudy (anonymous):

doesnt make sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

196 is the first area. Now for the bedroom we have (12x15)-(7x4)=152.
