How do I solve 7^(x - 5) = 7^(4x + 7)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since the bases of the exponentials are idential, the exponents equal eachother \[x-5=4x+7\] sovle for "x"

OpenStudy (deadshot):

so x is -4?

yep.
