81x^2+36x+4 factor this please **hint, hint** perfect square show work please thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how to factor 81x^2-36x+4

OpenStudy (zale101):

81x² - 36x + 4 = (9x - 2)²

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you, how do you get that answer though? what steps?

@Zale101

OpenStudy (zale101):

the first term of the trinomial, namely 81x^2, i the first product of the first terms of the factors namely 9x and 9x. 9x X 9x=81x^2.

OpenStudy (zale101):

the middle term of the trinomial, namely 36(or 36x), is the subtract of the product of the inner terms, namely 2 and 9x, and the product of the outer terms, namely 9x and 2.

OpenStudy (zale101):

the last term of the trinomial, namely 4, is the product of the last terms of the factors, 2 and 2.

OpenStudy (zale101):

2 X 2=4. You simply find the factors of the first term(81x) and last term(4) and they will give you the middle term which is 36.

OpenStudy (zale101):

Did u get it now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you very much. yes, that helped a lot!

OpenStudy (zale101):

Good Luck!
