Is this a function? Why or Why not? (2,0)(2,-1)(4,-2)(7,-3) I don't remember, and I left my notes in the classroom.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A function is when an x term only has one y term

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So.....yes? :/ D;

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer is no, because the x value 2 has 2 different y values

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

A little more to explain that: Are any of the Xes the sam with different Ys? If yes, then it is NOT a function.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OH OKAY! I GET IT!

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Yah, it is kind of backwards. Yes, Xes match, but Ys don't so no? Huh? But if you think of the vertical line test, if they ever told you about that one, the line would pass through both the Xes and bang, not a functon. Thanks for the medal. Don't have too much fun!
