The perimeter of a rectangle is 80ft. If the width is 6 ft. what are the dimensions of the rectangle 32ft by 8ft 33x7 35x6 34x6

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

So you hav 4 choices and one of those is right. Well, perimiter means all the sides added together. You know Width = 6. So it must use a 6 in the answer. That kills two of those right off. So what is your idea for how you would find out the length and pick from the last two?

But i dont get wat it means by dimension

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

OH! The length and width are the dimensions of a rectangle. A dimension is a measurement of a side. THE dimensions (plural) are the measurements of all sides. Because it is a rectangle, they usually only give two because the other two are the same as the first two.

34 x 6 To solve for this, you might want to set up and equation, just so you don't get confused. Lets just say that x is the Length and y is the width, the equation would be 2x+ 2y= 80. Width= 6, we can substitute that into the equation, no we have 2x+ 12= 80, we are solving for the other dimension, x, subtract 12 from both sides, no we have 2x= 68, divide by 2 and we get 34. So, our other dimension is 34. Final answer 34 x 6
