The message you saw is a follow-up to an April Fools' Day joke/prank from yesterday.

Seeking to address the need for more Moderators on the site, OpenStudy CEO, Preetha Ram announced today that all 187,341 OpenStudy users will be upgraded to Moderators. Though the youngest is barely 13 years old, Ram noted that wisdom and age are not necessarily correlated. We expect to see a rapid improvement in moderation and overall community feeling. Mods can delete, suspend, warn and kick users out of chats and study groups. ”We expect to see greater social interaction and overall sense of community. “More Mods the Merrier” is our Motto!”
