Chris is studying oxidation and reduction reactions. Which of the following could she use as an example of an oxidation reaction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What are the options?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

formation of atp from glucose during respiration, formation of carbohydrates from carbon dioxide during photosynthesis, formation of oxygen from water molecules during respiration

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Redox reactions have to do with the transfer of electrons. A molecule is oxidized when it loses an electron, and the other is reduced when it gains an electron.

thank you

Oxygen isn't formed from water, it is the other way around in respiration. Look for whether two molecules bond, or just transfer electrons (usually shows where the protons are transferred, because there is one electron on every hydrogen atom)
