How did changes in production methods lead to an improved standard of living?

OpenStudy (wach):

Mechanization and change in production methods generally boosted the economy because more goods could be produced for less - this thus deflated the prices of things like bread, textiles, and other goods, and made them more available to the consumer. Mechanization also decreased working hours and created a new source of jobs, also led to urbanization and the middle class. REALLY good for upping living standards.
