How to sketch y =|x+1| -1. Please, help

First you have y=x, |dw:1365091772744:dw|
Then y=(x+1) which shifts the graph left|dw:1365091814874:dw|
Then we have y=(x+1)-1, that -1 shifts the graph down by 1, |dw:1365091894332:dw|
Then we have modulus at that point, |dw:1365091958051:dw|
you mean I have to go on that way, not solving for |x+1| and have a system y = x if x > -1 and = -x -2 if x<-1 and then combine them ?

anyway, yours is perfect way to do. I got the right graph from yours.
From here, y=(x+1) we equate (x+1)=0, so, x=-1, and moves to the left
