what does vitamins do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

used to supply the body with energy. However vitamins cannot be stored.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jahvoan if vitamins cant be stored, where and how do they exist in our body.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they are used up as soon as they get into our bloodstream

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do mean that vitamins are the carriers of energy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just to correct. Most vitamins are fat-soluble which means they are fat-soluble and the excess passed out in urine. The vitamins that are water-soluble are B1 B2 B3 and C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

FAt-soluble vitamins are stored in fats(temporarily

@jahvoan im very sorry to trouble you. But here is my big question. How energy is transmitted from stomach to various sections of body. what is the medium for them to travel from one place to another in our body. IF I guess the answer is through blood, how energy gets transferred into blood from stomach. As stomach digests all our food, I guess stomach produces all the energy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Vitamins do not supply energy. Vitamins are organic compounds of different sorts that carry out different tasks in the body. They are called vitamins when an organisms body cannot produce enough to complete certain functions in the body, and need to be acquired from an outside source, usually in the diet. They are essential nutrients. Enzymes often need coenzymes to function. Coenzymes are non-protein substances that allow the substrate to bind to the enzyme so that it can catalyze a reaction. Without vitamins, many enzymes would not function, and thus many metabolic pathways would be inhibited.
