Graph each equation and tell whether it is linear.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[1.) y=-2x \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[2.) y=0.5x+1\]

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

y=-2x is linear since it's in the form y = mx + b where m = -2 and b = 0

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

to graph y=-2x, you need 2 points y=-2x y=-2*0 .. plug in x = 0 y = 0 So one point on y=-2x is (0,0)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

y = -2x y = -2*1 ... plug in x = 1 y = -2 And another point on y=-2x is (1,-2)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so you now have (0,0) and (1,-2) Plot them and draw a straight line through them to graph y=-2x

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

You do the same thing for the second equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks(:

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

sure thing
