HELP! x= ill have a pic below

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Ah. Right angles. That means those two lines are parallel. So that brings us back to something like the last problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok I understand

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

|dw:1365176217723:dw| So I can extend the lines, and that makes it look more like the last one

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

So, with what we did a few minutes ago, have any thoughts? OH! And where is the x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh its not 20 deg. its 2x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry my bad

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

ah! OK. I thought the 20 was odd. LOL. Those should also be similar triangles because they share the diagonal, are bounded by parallel lines, and the 90 corner.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Now, if they are similar triangles, do you remember what that means about their angles?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that they have similar angles

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Same angles and sides that are related by a ratio. But we are dealing with angles at the moment. So which angles match up. The easy one is the 90s. But which others are the same as each other?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 2x and 50 are the same

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Yes. 2x=50, solve for x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=25

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Yep! Not hard math, but I think their point is learning the rules about what makes angles the same.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya im not good at that I understand them but when it comes to a problem I I don't understand how to use thm..thantk you for your hlep

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

np. If you want to see more worked examples, Khan Academy has a whole section of geometry where he does this in the videos. What angle matches with which and why. In one he calls it the angle game. LOL

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ill have to cheek it out

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Welp, off to work! Don't have too much fun here!
