Convert the mixed number, 1 3/4 , to a fraction. i always sucked at fractions >.< i think it might be 4/7

Just think about the number 1 3/4. It is bigger than 1, so it can never be 4/7. 4/7 < 1, because you divide 4 in 7 parts. Now look again at. 1 3/4. That is 1 + 3/4. To be able to write it as one fraction, you need to know how many 4ths go in to 1: If you make a drawing you'll see that immediately:|dw:1365179602473:dw| So that is 4/4. You have 4/4 and 3/4. How many times 1/4 do you have then?
