hi, new here.  please bear with me.
I'm trying to help my son with his Algebra 1 hw - the problem is:
y=2x(squared)-10x
what are the propper steps to take in solving this type of equation?

is this it ma'am? $$y=2x^2-10x$$ because in that case all you would do is just take the$$2x^2$$ split it to make $$2x\times2x$$ making it $$4x$$ then just taking the $$-10x+4x=-6x$$ thus making $$y=(2x^2-10x)=-6x$$

he says that's not what he's supposed to be doing.
he needs to find the value coordinates of the vertex and make a table of values using x values to the left and right of the vertex.

hmm.... well I have downloaded the teacher's notes from the school website and still no luck... anything from you would be helpful.
