The box is drawn in between the upper quartile and the lower quartile.
First find the median....the middle number...and that is 37.
The lower quartile is the middle of the lower set of numbers, not counting the median. Those numbers are 27,31,31,32,37....and the median is 31.
Now do the upper quartile numbers...44,45,45,47,49...and the median for these numbers is 45.
So, the box in the box and whisker plot is in between 31 and 45.
