Which equation represents a line that is parallel to the line represented by the equation y=3x-7? 1.) y=-1/3x-10 2.) y=1/3x-10 3.) y= -3x-10 4.) y= 3x-10

OpenStudy (angela210793):

Two lines are parallel when the have the same slope do u know what's the slope of y=3x-7?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You mustn't be given this problem without knowing what a "Slope" is. y = 3x - 7 is in "Point-Slope" form. The slope is there in the formulation.

OpenStudy (angela210793):

well a line is written as y=mx+b where m=the slope and b= the y-intercept so in your case m=slope = 3

OpenStudy (angela210793):

so which one of yor options has a slope =3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3 and 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait 4?

OpenStudy (angela210793):

yup number 4 :) so u understand now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes thanks so much!(:
