OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Why would the breadth be \(\frac{3}{2}x\)? It says one half, not one and a half. That means \(\frac{1}{2}x\) unless you copied something wrong.

OpenStudy (kropot72):

Assuming the breadth of the classroom is one and a half times its height, your answer is correct.

OpenStudy (zehanz):

I will solve it myself and see if I get the same answer as you did :) |dw:1365324745379:dw| W is the wall area. Cw is the cost of painting the walls. F is the floor area. Cf is the cost of tiling the floor. Then \(W=2\cdot2h\cdot h+2 \cdot 1.5h \cdot h=4h^2+3h^2=7h^2\). Also, \(F=1.5h\cdot 2h=3h^2\). Now, \(C_w=1.60W=1.60\cdot 7h^2=179.20\), so \(h^2=\dfrac{179.20}{1.60\cdot 7}=16\). So we have found h=4. Now \(C_f=6.75F=6.75\cdot 3h^2=6.75\cdot3\cdot 4^2=324\). If will cost RS 324,-. Hey, it is the same as your solution. Be proud!
