Nick Carraway's Role In Great Gatsby A character’s role in a novel is an important role that can twist a story to have a totally different outcome. Nick Caraway, in the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is the narrator and his role in the book sets up many important details that help the story. Nick is the narrator and there are many reasons he was chosen for this role. Being the man to set up key events in the novel also adds to the importance of Nick‘s role. He also is the image of order in a society of disorder. Nick plays many important roles in the novel, The Great Gatsby, that add to the overall effect of the story. The role of narrator is best suited for Nick for many reasons.
