Explain how to use the distrubutive property to compute 104x57

OpenStudy (wach):

Let's first define distributive property.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First, I have no idea what is a distributive property.

OpenStudy (wach):

Distributive property: The distributive property lets you multiply a sum by multiplying each addend separately and then add the products.

OpenStudy (wach):

so like

OpenStudy (wach):

|dw:1365348088713:dw|

OpenStudy (wach):

Are you familiar with multiplying like |dw:1365348165106:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hello?

OpenStudy (wach):

Ok, so basically we're multiplying the smaller bits, like we'll multiply 'so' by the other number itself, and '7' by itself. So : 104x57 |dw:1365348325331:dw|

OpenStudy (wach):

Now, we add the smaller sums, 728 + 5200, and get 5928, which is the total sum. That's how you find the answer with distributive property.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its just the same as multiplying regularly, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hello?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@wach

OpenStudy (raden):

ur original question, 104 x 57 or 114 x 57 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

104 x 57

OpenStudy (raden):

thus, we cant use distibutif property for this case

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how?

OpenStudy (raden):

distributive property says : ab + ac = a(b+c)

OpenStudy (wach):

Yes, it is the same as multiplying normally. The distributive property is just another way of saying that, I believe.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No wonder

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks for your explanation and help

OpenStudy (raden):

104x57 = 8 * 13 * 3 * 19 looks no common division there

OpenStudy (wach):

For example: 3 x 59 (3 x 50) + (3 x 9) 150 + 27 177
