What role did African American play at home and abroad during WWII? Mexican American? Native American?
Oh wow, good question.
Interesting time for these groups. African Americans - extremely efficent in some senses of the war, for example there was an all-black brigade of fighter pilots that absolutely destroyed everyone because they were just so awesome. Migration to the north sped up during this time because of the invention of mechanical reaper, and pro-African-American rights groups like the FEPC became extremely popular. Good later on w/Civil Rights movement. Overall, improved quality of life. Native Americans - Left reservations and became more integrated into society. Also were really important as 'code breakers' during the war. Mexican Americans - 'Braceros' were brought in from Mexico to work on farms, especially in the West, like in California. Filled a hole in the agricultural economy and these people became a staple. Unfortunately, discrimination w/mostly white groups - like with the Zoot Suits in 1943.
Hope that helps you out! :)
thank you :)
