In the system shown below, what are the coordinates of the solution that lies in quadrant I? Write your answer in the form (a,b) without using spaces. x^2-y^2=25 x+y=25

Well, you are going to want the positive values of both numbers since it is quadrant I. If you square the bottom equation then you get x^2 + y^2 = 15625. If you add both equations together at this point, you can eliminate the y variable and you get 2x^2 = 15650. Solve for x then put the value in for x and solve for y.
