OpenStudy (priths):

why is the direction of magnetic field determined by the direction of force on the north pole only and not on the south pole ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

who said. . i think it cn be determined by one pole at a time. . not necessarily north pole

OpenStudy (priths):

are you sure about what you have said ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup. . where did u read that fact ?

OpenStudy (priths):

It was given like this in a book

OpenStudy (priths):

It was also given that due to this fact the magnetic field lines always start from north pole to south pole .How does this happen then ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First of all ya it is correct that the magnetic field lines start from north pole and end up in south pole. BUT . THIS IS JUST A CONVECTION that is universally accepted. magnetic field lines are intuitive realization of the magnetic field.. It doesnt mean that the magnetic strength of north pole is greater than south pole. . the magnetic strength of both the poles is exactly same. .
