why isn't openstudy democratic ? like, we should be allowed to elect our ambassadors, moderators etc ? and have elections periodically

OpenStudy (aravindg):

@laudalo just a question :Does this happen to your second account here .I see that you just joined the site and have a lot of feedback and remarks against our present mods.

OpenStudy (aravindg):

As I mentioned in the last post why not first get familiar with the site .get to know how things work ,and how our moderators do their job ? I would be really happy to help you with that :)

Parth (parthkohli):

There can be a SmartScore cutoff?

mathslover (mathslover):

First of all Welcome to OpenStudy laudalo. Great to see you worrying about the system and selection of OpenStudy mods and ambassadors. It works nearly in a democratic manner. Taking the example of India ... just like the president is not directly chosen, similarly the ambys and mods here are not chosen directly. The admins regularly look at their performances and work and appoint them with different responsibilities. There are many ways in which a user can make fake accounts and vote for himself , so the voting / election method is not totally fair at all. The method of choosing ambys and mods by checking their progresses , performances, responses and controls over the situations is correct and fair according to me. You can still give your feedback about the users who you think deserve to be ambassadors and moderators by : Writing a testimonial for them according to their performances. Admins check the user profiles regularly , those users who are nearly capable to face the responsibility ... \(\boxed{\boxed{\Large{\stackrel{\color{red}{\ast\qquad\star\qquad\ast\qquad\star\qquad\ast\qquad\star\qquad\ast\qquad\star}}{\mathscr {\color{orange}{Welcome } \quad \color{green}{To}\quad \color{purple}{OpenStudy }!!}}}\\{\color{pink}{\ast\qquad\star\qquad\ast\qquad\star\qquad\ast\qquad\star\qquad\ast\qquad\star}}}} \)

yes my first account @AravindG I have a lot of remarks all becuase I do not like @hartnn straightaway :P @mathslover that is a possibility but I strongly support elections

OpenStudy (aravindg):

Just wanted to add I have been around this site for 450+ days and believe me hartnn is one our best newly elected mods .Just spent some more time here ..I know you will realize it !

mathslover (mathslover):

@laudalo calm down, please don't criticize the other mods or the selection of admins. They are totally fair , just you need is to stay for more time here. You will surely get to know the truth ... :)

OpenStudy (blues):

OpenStudy attempts to be as democratic as possible. And I think does a fairly good job. Admins are people who actually work for OpenStudy. It would be impractical to meet a company's staffing needs (i.e., programmers, public relations specialists, directors) by putting staffing choices by election. Mods are selected, not elected, because we have qualities that the administrators want in people who are here to keep order on the site and, to be honest, guide it in the direction that OpenStudy as a company wants to move. It is a position for very, very responsible and chill people who tend to be experts in one academic discipline or another, not necessarily winners of online popularity contests. The ambassadors are selected in a slightly more democratic fashion. All applications are visible to all the moderators. We discuss each candidate and vote - and the outcome of that vote is given to the admins (who make the final choice) as a recommendation which they may or may not follow. And the admins and mods do pay significant heed to the feedback in this group. Overall, users here have a great deal of guidance and contribute much to the direction the site and the whole company move (and it is appreciated), which is more than can be said of most similar platforms where an executive makes decisions and users just accept it.

OpenStudy (aravindg):

well said ^^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am deleting my account.

OpenStudy (aravindg):

you cant do that here

OpenStudy (aravindg):

There is no option to delete your account

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

You may ask for a permanent ban upon your account by contacting: contact@openstudy.com But OS is a beautiful place, i love it :) but yah, you can't delete, just permanently ban.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@AravindG is @laudalo your account also? Idk because I was reading and it said: "yes my first account @AravindG I have a lot of remarks all becuase I do not like @hartnn straightaway :P @mathslover that is a possibility but I strongly support elections"

OpenStudy (aravindg):

what was that ? ^^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well sorry for my confusion, but i asked that if @laudalo is your account also? I ask this because @laudalo said "yes my first account @AravindG ".

OpenStudy (aravindg):

no It was answer to my first question whether it was his second account here . Why would I be talking to myself through 2 accounts ? Besides a mod confirmed to me that this is his first account via private message

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay got you. And Sorry.

OpenStudy (aravindg):
